Former Minister Bista Abandons Politics And Enjoys Dragon Farming

Rabindra Dhungel

The land along the Tulsipur-Ghorahi road section of Tulsipur Sub-metropolitan -18, which was once deserted, has now turned green. "When will the pillars buried in this desert land come to fruition?"

The land has now turned green due to three people, including former minister Lokendra Wistamgar, made good use of the vacant land. "Dragon fruit bears fruit only after two or three years of planting," said Magar, "but we planted the hidden seedlings and it bore fruit in nine months."

Even in nine months, the fruit has not yet matured. Magar said that he would give good yield in the coming June, July and August even if That gave few fruits in the first phase. "It takes three to four kilograms of fruit from one plant," he said.

Magar said that he has been cultivating dragon fruit in 66 plots in Dang at present. He said, "It has not been cultivated in a large area yet, but the attraction is increasing." Now, many people have come to the farm to understand about this cultivation and some have taken the seedlings.

He suggested that attention should be paid to expand its cultivation as it has high immunity. "It is expensive to buy this fruit, which is very important in terms of health, so we have thought of expanding this cultivation," said Magar.

This fruit has not been produced in Nepal. It is available in small quantities from Vietnam and other markets. Foreign dragon fruit is sold for Rs. 700 to Rs. 1900.
When he went to China as a minister, he got interested in eating dragon fruit. Former Minister Magar said, "At that time, I was thinking of what it would be like to produce this fruit in Nepal."

It is said that it has been cultivated in Nepal for about 18 years. He said that he has been getting information about this farm for 15 years. He said that he came to Dang to cultivate as the climate is suitable for this cultivation in the Terai.

Former Minister Magar has started farming by leasing  land which has been barren for a long time for 15 years. The land has been leased for Rs 4 million for 15 years. The two-and-a-half feet deep pillar has been buried by filling the barren land for many years and the seedlings have been planted at a distance of two meters. Irrigation is done two-three times a week by making the same deep boring.

It has the ability to fight against various diseases in the human body including gastric, constipation, cancer, heart disease. He said that although there are three types of dragon plants, he has planted two types which are red on the outside and white on the inside and red on the inside and white on the outside .
