Commercial cultivation of fried Japanese Mugwort has been started in Bhojpur for the first time. Its cultivation has been started with the aim of earning income with low investment and making good use of unused land.

Two youths of Arun  Rural Municipality -4 have started commercial cultivation of Mugwort. He said that he started this farming as it is produced in a short time and the market demand for various herbs is good. They have started cultivating about 8,000 Mugwort
in an area of about two ropanis by bringing saplings from Sankhuwasabha.

Farmer Jhil Bahadur Rai informed that it has been planted in a small area as a trial and if the state provides necessary financial and technical assistance, it is planned to expand it to an additional big areas. Mugwort can be collected every 15 to 20 days, said farmer Rai. He said that its dried leaves and stalks will be sold as raw material at Rs 50 per kg. Division Forest Office Bhojpur has taken forward the necessary process for its expansion in the district. The office says that the expansion of Mugwort farming will help in the economic development of the locals as many lands are becoming barren due to monkeys and other wild animals.

Bishnu Lal Ghimire, chief of the Division Forest Office, Bhojpur, said that further study, research and feasibility study would be carried out on the possibility of this.

Chief Ghimire said, "Two young men have started commercial cultivation of Mugwort. We have monitored . Now that we have seen its production and marketing, we plan to expand it to other areas by creating pocket areas, which will help make barren land income-generating." The locals are optimistic about the alternative cultivation of Mugwort as much land has been wasted due to monkeys and other problems. Local Indra Bahadur Karki said that he is preparing to start farming as it is the first time farming has started in the district.

Karki said, "I also went to the place where the Mugwort is being cultivated and got notice about its application and other technical knowledge. As the forest office is also interested, I am also preparing to expand the cultivation. In fact, it seems to be using barren land. I thought so. ”
