Tea production has started at Rain Front Alliance in Ilam, the hub of tea production. The production of organic rainfed tea has been started in the district by completely displacing the chemical substances. As the demand for organic tea has been increasing in the world market recently, ilameli farmers have been attracted to rainfed farming. However, with the increasing demand for organic tea in the world market, the farmers are ready to go to the rain front with a three-year work target.
The farmers, who started organic farming last year, have stated that they are planning to reduce the chemical system farming to a maximum of 30 percent in the current fiscal year and to bring the production to 100 percent organic next year. ‘Our goal is to go fully organic in at least three years. We are now in the second year of this campaign which started last year. We plan to make a maximum of 70 percent organic this year and 100 percent organic next year. '
Tulsiram Bhattarai, a tea farmer in Ilam Kanyam, said, "But it is not easy. As organic production reduces production, farmers face the challenge of professionalism. But in terms of price and consumption, the future is bright. That is why we are engaged in this campaign. '
At present, 165 farmers of Ilam Suryodaya Municipality Kanyam are engaged in organic tea production. It is led by the Kanyam Tea Producers Cooperative, run by farmers. The organization has not only organized the farmers but also established an industry in the municipality and processed the tea and sent it to the market. During the season, the industry run by the organization produces a maximum of 6,000 kg or 6 tons of ready-made tea daily. However, the production capacity of the industry is only 4,000 kg per day.

Kanyam Cooperative has brought a concessional loan of Rs. 20 million from Rastriya Sahakari Bank for rain front or organic tea production. The bank has borrowed Rs 17.5 million at 7.5 percent interest rate and Rs 2.5 million at 10 percent interest rate.
Manager of the cooperative Surya Bahadur Khadka said that the organization wants to take poverty alleviation loan by reducing micro loan and plans to take additional loan and increase production if the bank offers for such loan.
According to him, tea is being produced in an area of 120 hectares by 165 members of the organization. From where 900,000 kg of ready-made tea is produced annually. Manager Khadko said that 500,000 kg of tea came to the company's tea factory even though 4 lakh of them went to other factories.
A farmer earns a minimum of Rs 50,000 and a maximum of Rs 1.5 million during the season. Meanwhile, the organization makes a profit of up to Rs 1.5 million annually by processing raw tea produced by farmers, said Khamraj Pradhan, chairman of Kanyam Tea Producers Cooperative.
